It looks like handset sales in Japan might beat last year's very strong levels....good news for June quarter royalties.

Japan Feb domestic mobile phone shipments up 1.6 pct yr-on-yr - industry group

TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Domestic shipments of cellular phones rose 1.6 pct year-on-year in February to 5.1 mln handsets,

because of the release of new models for spring, data from the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) showed.

It was the second straight month that shipments increased.

Excluding personal handyphone system (PHS) units, shipments in February grew 1.3 pct from the

year before at 4.93 mln, also up for the second consecutive month. Shipments of PHS were up 9.1 pct to 172,000, rising for the first time in six months.
