I had 1 disc removed and 1 trimmed in 91. I think the biggest key is doing exactly what the Dr tells you to do during recovery. I was very diligent about not lifting, walking, stretching, etc. I consider my surgery 100% successful and today have no more back problems then anybody else has. Everybody I know that had an unsuccessful surgery also did not do the therapy and obey their doctors orders afterwards.

The problem is you will feel so much better immediately that people overdo it. I checked in at 4 in the afternoon for surgery unable to lay in any position other then fetal and that still hurt, I could not sit in a chair without sitting all cocked to one side and in constant pain. I left the hospital the next morning at 9 without having ever used the pain pump totally pain free. So it's easy to not take it easy because you really feel like you've had the miracle cure. While my surgery was not recent I thought I would pass on my thoughts.
