business.scotsman.com

LONDON (Reuters) - Xstrata said two shipments of copper from its the Bajo de la Alumbrera mine in Argentina will be delayed until May after flooding, an Xstrata spokeswoman told Reuters on Friday.

"There has been some flooding in that region, which has damaged the railway line," she said, adding the firm had declared force majeure by notifying customers on Wednesday.

"The rain hasn't affected the production in Alumbrera in any way but obviously we are now looking at different transport arrangements to get our product to the port," she added.

The tonnage affected was not specified. Alumbrera has production capacity of 190,000 tonnes per year of copper concentrate and 550,000 ounces of gold.
