I've been to a variety of schools and universities throught this great, great land and never once have had the experience of having anything hinting of a religious nature shoved down my throat.

Granted I haven't been in school for years, and having not lived under a rock, I'm aware of the major battles that have raged over the " religion creep " that has been attempting to seep it's way into legislation: prayer in school, the very possible overturning of Roe V. Wade and stem cell research.

The issues have manifold angles---religious and not.

The nice thing about the US is that if you fear ( as I do and I'm totally enraged at Bush over this midevil ( sp. intentional ) religion based veto on stem cell research (and it's purely the funding for it! -- and it's potential boon for the fractured in mind and body ) as I do, it becoming the law of the land...unlike many of the countries this board holds the banner high for, you and I have the ability to change all of that and can go into the street and voice our opinions without bodily harm and death.

Not to mention vote every 2 years---to wit, the last election, e.g.

Are you beginning to see the difference?

I think you fear " the other side " inordinately...I don't; with dem majorities in the house and senate, you have, at least 2 more years before the remote possibility arrives when you'd be forced to attend church donning white gloves ( if you're a lady ) and a starched white shirt and tie if you're otherwise.

It certainly beats the current requisite for wearing a burkah(sp?) where, if you don't, you get stoned---I mean with real rocks.
