Laz, you do not know the Muslim culture that is why you say it is denigration. Covering ones head/face is a symbol of a woman's virtue of modesty and it is highly honored and prized in their culture. That's not denigration, that is done out of respect, and it is worn out of respect since most Muslim women do not appreciate lecherous looks and prefer family values (rather than Cosmopolitan lifestyles). Muslims do not look upon women as a piece of meat as in Playboy. In other words, Muslim men do not like nudie type women and Muslim women are not into nudie type roles, each complements the other.
Just like in old Christian biblical times, the Virgin mary is always cloaked with head-covering and wrapped in tons of robes to display the "virtue" of modesty and "dignity" - not displaying to the world's roving eyes one's voluptuous torso.
Even, today, the nuns are garbed w/headgear and robes to maintain modesty.
Also, when a woman meets the Pope, her head must be covered, and that's not denigration, that's culture and custom unknown to most and misinterpreted by many.
As for security, I prefer not watering down the Constituion, since there has been no proven need for such security measures. More people get killed in auto accidents than by terrorists, so it's all relative. I'll take my chances being free of the security nuts who I believe pose a greater danger to America than actual terrorists. |
