"""""In August 1994, shortly after a visit to San Diego by Chinese Wireless admins who decided to forgo CDMA until it was sufficiently matured and commercially available and begin to implement GSM nationwide instead,""""

Wow. Eric. Did you think those Chinese Wireless admins then were based their GSM decision purely on the technical merits of GSM systems then?

Either you are too Americanized or you just did not understand how Chinese government officers and those so called "clean" European Nokia and Ericsson Chinese rep. did their telecomm. businesses within China.

Please do not think China chose GSM because GSM was more mature than CDMA. It was more like choosing GSM that would provide them a better return to their pockets. Sigh.
