Yep, all very true. Too many people have this oddly pervasive "habit" of extrapolating what they have, what they experience, in their microcosm of reality, to the rest of the world.
One would expect, however, that those folks who portray themselves as technology gurus, and even have a stage to shout from, to be above self-aggrandizing hypnotic recitations of the stewed carrots they are spoon fed. They don't ask the hard questions because they cannot even conceive what those questions are. They're just oiling the machine, from inside their box, and cannot fathom (or don't want to fathom) what's outside that box.
And I'll leave you with...some Pink Floyd:
Welcome to the Machine
Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine. Where have you been? It's all right, we know where you've been. You've been in the pipeline, filling in time, provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'. You bought a guitar to punish your ma, and you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool, so welcome to the machine.
Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine. What did you dream? It's all right, we told you what to dream. You dreamed of a big star, he played a mean guitar, he always ate in the Steak Bar, he loved to drive in his Jaguar. So welcome to the machine.
