other things: - small government - absolute absence of red tape, burdensome or not
All good.
- universal health care
What does that mean? Is there socialized medicine? That's what universal health care means everywhere else.
- multiple language education system
Besides Chinese and English what are the other languages in HK's education system?
- common law / tort procedure
An english inheritance we have too.
- food Anyone can get anything they want here. Particularly true in Houston where there are supermarkets featuring ethnic foods from everywhere in the world.
- energy pricing ???
- capital control and th lack thereof Does not the US have capital freedom?
- immigration procedure
We have immigration procedures too. And so much demand to immigtrate to here, people come enmasse illegally which is a problem. What does "immigration procedure" in HK mean? I have a feeling not everyone in other Chinese regions who'd like to move to HK is allowed to.
- family values
In Kowloon too? We have family values too. Our media and entertainment system try to erode the traditional values and have some success due to the freedom of speech and the press. Oh I see you have problems similar to ours too:
<topless bars ... massage parlors en.wikipedia.org Sounds like Houston only its illegal here. I would bet some of the same gangs staff the massage parlors there and here.
- religious tolerance
We have that.
- ICAC (independent commission against corruption)
Corruption exists but by world stds, it isn't a big problem.
- public safety (function of police to population ratio, and general behaviour of population)
HK may have the advantage here.
- non-issue as regards to sexual orientation
Ditto here. Does HK have gay marriage? No, just like here and our liberals would say its cause you're bigots.
- no big deal as regard to publishing
Very free here too. You can speak or print anti-government things all you want here for example. so far, china mainland is gravitating towards hk, and hk has not budged one bit, because freedom is seductive
Good.
For the USA to even come close, its government would have to be shredded to 1/20 its current size, on per capita basis, for starters, at all levels, and gradually trimmed back more, for the next 10 years, and its tax forms would have to be reduced to 2 sheets of paper, one for personal and one for corporations.
I like the sound of much of that. I don't know about 1/20 but a shrinkage would be good. |
