Humans are increasingly thinking it's better to run human affairs not on a tribal zero-sum found-wealth basis organized on alpha male confiscatory dominance hierarchy method, but on a co-operative created-wealth free trade among consenting adults basis, without fraud or force.
That is a novel concept even in the freedom-loving West where the individual is sovereign and the idea of state serfdom is a distant memory from the 19th century. Okay, I admit I am exaggerating slightly there, and even a lot, but they aren't actively kicking my door down right now. In China, they are barely out of the gutter and are still in the hutong, with Mao's corpse still an icon of worship for hordes.
So, assuming the more modern rules of inheritance, [which are still far from what is more ideal, which is tradable citizenship], I own New Zealand by right of being born here as do all other citizens of New Zealand. Others now also own it by having it gifted to them as immigrants by stupid politicians and their ignorant electorates.
Maoris had the good sense not to gift the land they sold to The Crown. They have gifted quite a bit. We modern Kiwis are far more stupid than were the Maoris - we simply give it away to newcomers.

NZ Maoris came from Cook Islands. They came east from Taiwan. I doubt that you think that Hu has ownership of Polynesia including Cook Islands, New Zealand and Hawaii because he has visited there once or twice, or because some modern Chinese from China have also visited or gone to live in those places.
I note that China recently has been funding various Pacific islands in various ways, including Cook Islands. Sending some cash doesn't buy the rights.
If we follow the trail upstream, we see that Taiwan is the headquarters of the Polynesian Pacific Ocean acquistions from sea birds and not much more. That excludes the Melanesian acquisitions which were NOT from Taiwan. Australia aborigines for example wandered across from south Asia when sea levels were very low during the last glaciation.
Because of miscegenation, there is some Melanesian/Polynesian admixture. Long ocean travels to other countries resulted in some admixture, as normal, like the Bounty mutineers and Tahitians mixing it up on Pitcairn, then moving HQ to Norfok Island [my local ancestral HQ].
We the Polynesians might have to defend Taiwan, our ancestral lands, against the foreign devils from Beijing, who have no more right to rule Taiwan than do the Japanese or Americans.
Let's do the DNA tests and see who came from where. The Taiwanese came from China, but that doesn't mean China gets to rule the locals who left home to establish a new realm once the local yokels decide to have independence.
Around the world, people have left home base to discover or conquer other places. Using your logic, Egypt, the jumping off place for everyone who left Africa, which is everyone, could rightfully take over everywhere downstream. Also, the fact of some previous time of rule doesn't confer eternal rights to previously-ruled places. That is absurd. The USSR for a start would have to reinstate rule over large areas. Genghis would have to take over from .... oh, I see what you want... TJ the new Great Khan. With your DNA dollops and tranches from other realms, you could deem yourself to be King of the World by ancestral rights to rule. Forget that sub-human way of life TJ. Join the human race.

I suggest you buy gold and play your online shoot 'em up games and show Ai-Li how the world works. Forget about Taiwan. If they want to leave home, like Ai-Li will do one day, it's time to let them go.
