Just to be clear, as I understand drug stocks waiting for approval, if there is a definitive answer and it goes to 8... or 6... or 4... the next round of calls might only go for 10 or 20 cents.

I see a drug stock awaiting ruling as "Vegas"... not "low hanging fruit".

I personally am more comfortable writing calls on bigger stocks like QCOM, ... or market trackers like the Russell 2000 (IWM). Lower returns, but still in the 12-14 percent annual range. I've got some APR IWM 80 calls that I'll lose on Friday, but the only way that they stay lost is if the NASDAQ never comes back to me this summer. In which case we all win with a strong Market.
