I don't think there are that many neocons, maybe 3,000 or so. Maybe under 60 in senior US government positions. A lot in the media, maybe > 500.
I think the neocons found a number of "useful idiots" to use a Commie term. While their star was ascending, they had many "friends", now that association with neocons is a liability, not so much.
The neocons have managed to p*ss an increasing portion of the US military, and much of the inteligence community. With disregarding advice on Iraq, distorting intellignece, and the naming of Valerie Plame, there are more than a few ticked off spooks.
They have generated huge expenses, which cuts into every body who benefits from non-military federal spending. Corporate America has quietly slipped away from supporting neocons.
The neocons still have support from defense contractors and part of Wall Street.
Look, even members of the first Bush administration, (George H. W. Bush) are after them - the "Iraq Study Group" were mostly from his administration.
By Spring 2009 and a new administration, I expect 90% of the senior level neocons in government will be gone. |
