Since 2001, California has lost 375,000 manufacturing jobs, a 19.9 percent drop that slightly exceeded the nationwide decline of 17 percent.

I wonder what this has been over the last 20 years? This no doubt is a large component of the per capita energy use stat. Long before natural gas became expensive Calexico was pushing industry away with environmental compliance issues.
