"This strong second-quarter performance exceeded our plans for all geographic areas. Our growth in both revenues and earnings continues to validate our focus on providing superior open architecture technology and the highest level of customer support in our industry," commented Ronald A. Abelmann, president and CEO. "Our Tornado tool suite introduced only nine months ago has been extremely well accepted by our traditional UNIX customer base and sales to customers with Windows NT environments have well exceeded our goals."
Key design wins for the quarter included Net2Net Corporation for its CellBlaster Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) management and analysis system, Protocol Systems for future-generation medical monitoring equipment, and FLIR Systems for infrared imaging systems. Net2Net saw Tornado as the ideal environment for remote debugging, a primary requirement for developing and deploying their systems quickly.
Protocol Systems Inc., the exclusive supplier of patient monitoring systems to the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games, selected the Windows version of Tornado for use in its future generation of monitoring instruments. Primary advantages were Tornado's integrated toolset and use of the Tcl scripting language which will enable Protocol to individually test each PowerPC-based unit. FLIR Systems is building a highly modular, configurable, infrared camera system. Tornado's availability on Windows will give FLIR's programmers the increased productivity they need without having to change their accustomed desktop development environment. Wind River Systems, Inc.
