Emcore Acquires Opticomm CompoundSemi News Staff April 16, 2007...Emcore Corporation of Somerset, New Jersey USA, a maker of compound semiconductor components and subsystems announced it has acquired the privately held company, Opticomm Corporation of San Diego, California. Emcore reportedly paid $4 million initial consideration for all of the shares of Opticomm. The transaction closed on Friday, April 13, 2007. As part of the agreement, Emcore will also pay an additional earn-out payment based on Opticomm’s 2007 revenues.
Opticomm’s specialty is in fiber optic video, audio, and data networking. Its primary product, the Optiva Platform, was designed to address the optical communication requirements of markets including: broadcast and media, security and surveillance, healthcare, traffic and rail, and government and military. "We are excited to join Emcore, where Opticomm's product line, technology and worldwide market presence will both expand Emcore's current video offerings, as well as benefit from the increased resources and experience available in the Ortel Division," said David Caidar, President of Opticomm.
