Was it torture, at Abu Ghraib?
I'm trying remember whether you were the person who defended it, and said it wasn't torture, there, even after the photos of the corpse of the man who was beaten to death was shown. He was being pointed at by a smiling female psychopathic clown.
Probably, on SI, there was more than one person.
Do you believe that if the few soldiers who came forward hadn't had photos to back them up, the "policing ourselves" part would have gone as it did? It's brave individual Americans who frequently blow the whistle, and then it's our Constitution, the rule of law, and the conscience of the American people who force the rogues (rogues who at Abu G. were authorized to disregard the Geneva Conventions) to obey our laws. And that threat -- exposure to the conscience of the good American people, who do believe in the principle of fairness and the rule of lae and don't believe in torture -- is why Gitmo is in Cuba.
No more cameras allowed in our detention centers, btw, since Abu Ghraib. Probably that pristine glair is too bright for photography. Overexposure, you know. It can create problems. |
