Delayed Reaction?
farted,
<< The most significant QCOM decline recently has been from the low 50s in May '06 to the low 30s in Aug. What Nokia "news" release or releases caused that? (Please be specific.) ... If I am not mistaken, that was when the NOK POS6 announced they were asking the EU to look into Qualcomm for not dealing in a FRANDLY way and were asking the EU to consider sanctions against QCOM. >>
It appears you are mistaken. Between the Broadcom, Ericsson, Matsushita NEC, Nokia, and TI, filing in Brussels and QCOM's 5 year high set over 6 months later, QCOM share price appreciated 23%. Darned nice run.
Broadcom, Ericsson, Matsushita NEC, Nokia, and TI, announced jointly On October 28, 2005 that they had jointly filed a complaint against QUALCOMM the prior day with the EC DG-Comp in Brussels. QCOM closed at $43.05 on October 27, 2005. Less than two weeks later QUALCOMM filed its first GSM infringement suit against Nokia and have filed 8 additional since in 6 countries. QCOM's 5 Year high of $53.01 was set on May 5, 2006, over 6 months after the Brussels' complaint was filed, before starting a decline to the low $30s. The QCOM 52 week low of $32.76 was set on August 10, 2006 and has recovered reasonably well since from that low.
To narrow the range in responding to Ron's question you might want to look for Nokia News Releases between May 2006 and September since QCOM is up 13% in CY2007 vs. the S&P up 2.5%
Actually you might want to look at QUALCOMM's 10Q for FQ3 2006 and read a transcript of their July 2006 earnings CC.
Cheers,
