the commissions are absolutely brutal! If I wanted to buy this on the LSE, Fido makes me call a live borker, and the commission would be something like "brutal, plus 10 cents a share." Etrade is promising online trading in local currencies for six countries, (Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, and the United Kingdom), "coming soon." No idea when soon is, or how the currency conversion will work. These guys have it right now, but I'm not convinced I need to open another account, yet. interactivebrokers.com
