There are some very good research articles in this area. I don't know if you've read them, but some of them are fascinating:

The above is interesting, and I've also seen some really eye opening data on the shortage of real grocery stores in poor areas, which "forces" people to eat more fast food, unless they want to travel more than 10 miles to stores that sell fresh. When you look at the current research, I think you will find this is far more than a taste bud issue.
