I see that *experts* all over the world (much like the 'experts' on SI) are blaming America's
freedoms in the area of gun acquisition for the VT shootings.

Aside from the people who have gun control as their permanent agenda, using every situation to propagandize their POV, I'm starting to think that people scapegoat the gun laws because they simply cannot face evaluating what would cause a person to commit mass murder. IOW, it's like a knee jerk defense mechanism. Not so much unlike the usual reference to violence in media as a possible contributing factor.

Normal people can't comprehend the impulse to mass murder and need a way to explain it.

Why not just believe in evil? I sure do. Events like yesterday prove it. And that's so whether or not the shooter was part of some conspiracy. Who knows at this point? His preparedness could just mean that he was really serious about it. As he evidently was.
