Actually, I think that the taste of a gloppy Krispy Kreme is not as good as the taste of really good steamed broccoli florets with a pat of real butter. I think many people have been led to believe that a doughnut is the most superior food in the world and some kind of 'reward' for good behavior. Ditto truffles (the chocolate kind), potato chips and cheetos. Couple this belief with the addictive powers of sugar and we have diabetes, obesity and a thriving and largely unsuccessful weight loss industry.

We associate pastries, stuffing, candies with 'good' occasions such as holidays, birthdays and other celebrations. We associate green leafy vegetables with Mom telling us to eat our veggies or we won't get dessert.

It's not the food. It's the association that is rockhard in many minds. If we could get more cartoons like Popeye and his spinach (fresh and cleaned of ecoli, not canned), I'll bet that children would start eating more spinach.

YOU trust the US with defense. I don't see you protesting to have yourself be your own designated national defense organization. I don't even see you protesting to have your state or your city designated as such. It's a given in our lives that we have national defense. It's also a given that, from time to time, corrupt men like Bush will be at the head of that defense. This is why we have balance of power because we know that corrupt men will get into office from time to time.

Is the national defense less complex and less important than health care? Is private health insurance more complex than, say, the taxcode, the justice system and SSA? What about private health 'insurance' is sacrosanct...aside from the huge profits raked in by corporations?
