The group known as the Islamic State in Iraq announced over the Internet that the 48-hour ultimatum issued on Saturday had expired. “An Islamic court has ruled… the men’s execution. Al Qaeda demanded the release of all Sunni Muslim women held in Iraq’s prisons and the handing over of Interior Ministry agents accused of involvement in the alleged rape of a Sunni woman and killings of Sunnis. The site ran pictures of the condemned men.
