Your post makes no sense to me for two reasons:
First, the possibility that Davis did say this was accepted until absolutely no corroboration could be found anywhere else on the net. It seems odd to accept one source among many dissenting sources.
Second, how can someone prove that negative? Semmens gives no source for that quote, and he has placed it in the context of a partial and accurate quote within the quotations, implying it is a direct quote, yet where did he get it?
If I say that Lazarre said, "I am going to take a wet noodle to Iktomi if she doesn't stop telling me what my predilections are", how do you prove you didn't say that? I haven't said where I heard it. All you can do is point to your post and say, "well, look. Here is where I discussed this topic and I said nothing about a wet noodle, and nowhere else on SI do I mention a wet noodle." Well, prove you didn't say it. It seems more rational to accept that the preponderance of articles, blogs and stories agreeing on this outweighs the one unproven Semmens quote, which means HE should prove Davis said that, not the opposite.
ANd for the record, I don't hold you in any way responsible for posting Semmens's story, but I am puzzled by the resistance to what really seems kind of a rational conclusion. |
