I see. Having the police around "doesn't work"? Gosh. In my area they work pretty well. Considering this shooting is the worst ever, I'd say things in the US, on average, work pretty well. You don't think the police do a fine job for the most part? That's question number one.
You can call relying on the police "national nanny"- but I like to think of it as an organized civilized society with compartmentalization of responsibility. Not everyone is able, even with training, to do the job of a policeman. So to think you can make the citizenry at large in to police, or people who can perform a police function, seems a little strange to me. So question number 2, you don't think specialized police training gives us an individual better able to respond to a situation like this?
I don't want the police to solve all the problems, just the ones they are trained for. If there was a chemical spill I'd want a toxics trained team of emergency specialists on it, and for accounting errors call in the CPAs- but yes, for the problems surrounding deranged gunmen I am more than happy to say that I think the police and other law enforcement agencies can handle this best.
And question number 3, how about that problem with suicide if you give kids guns?
So stop trying to tell me I want something I don't really want, and let's deal with this issue by issue. Unless that's too logical and unemotional. Is it too logical and unemotional? |
