The instant background only applies to criminal records, doesn't weed out nuts, and doesn't qualify someone to use a high-powered semi-automatic. And Cho was clearly a nut. Just like a lot of rightwing militia Timothy McVeigh types are nuts. Or if you like, some Muslim fanatic is a nut. No difference. What this and Columbine and Oklahoma City is that the most dangerous nuts don't have to be any one type of person. They can be anyone.
