There's a more important reason Gore lost to Bush : Gore did not run on his strongest point, the economy. The economy was a bit overheated, but it was the best economy that many Americans have ever experienced. Gore could have given speechs about how good the economy was, but that wasn't near the top of his agenda.

Gore did not run on this, but pushed enough environmental messages that many people though he would screw up the eeconomy.

Note that Gore did not carry his home state, or the county where grew up. How do you manage to do that ?
