The lesson we should take from this is that we need to examine critically everything we read, taking it neither at face value, automatically attacking the messenger and saying "Prove it isn't so!" when you agree with the opinion, nor as an automatic lie when you don't. When NOTHING else online confirms a story like that, then the story should be greeted with great suspicion by all, rather than a defiant challenge to "show me he didn't say that" because you don't like the politics of the person challenging it.
