I've got to post this just to get it off my mind. Recently, you said that you have never gotten any benefit from Western medicine. I'm paraphrasing, but I'm sure you'll agree that that was the gist of it.

I thought about replying but didn't. Now I can't stop thinking about that statement.

The problem is that I think it just isn't true. While I will concede that it is possible that in your entire life you have never had any illness that led to seeing a medical doctor who provided the proper treatment for it, that doesn't mean that you have gotten no benefit from Western medicine.

You mentioned a three year old son who you nearly lost. Western medicine may have failed him on that occasion, but it has also provided him with great benefits.

For one thing, you do not need to worry about his contracting polio. Or smallpox. Both of those diseases, which used to kill tens or hundreds of thousands of people each year while crippling more, have been virtually wiped off the face of the earth by Western medicine.

It's also very unlikely that your son, or anyone else in your family, will ever contract tuberculosis. Food poisoning used to be a common cause of death worldwide. It's very rare these days.

I do want to emphasize that I am not saying that Western medicine and its practitioners are perfect or infallible. I am also not saying that alternatives such as nutritional and herbal approaches to healthcare are not sometimes very effective and sometimes superior to the standard medical treatments.
