Schools launch puberty lessons for UAE girls
By Nina Muslim, Staff Reporter

gulfnews.com

Dubai: UAE girls will get puberty lessons at a younger age to help them understand mental and physical changes involved, and stave off social problems.

The health and education ministries yesterday launched a school health programme on puberty issues, including menstruation, growth spurt, mood swings and acne, for girls aged between 12 and 14, who are the ones most likely to undergo the normal maturity process.

The programme will be extended to include boys and private schools later.

Under this programme, science teachers have to teach the causes and effects of puberty to schoolgirls, according to a curriculum prepared by the health ministry.

Science and physical education teachers, in addition to nurses, doctors and counsellors at the school, also have to be able to provide accurate information and advice to girls.
