Moto Q1

Scratchy,

<< Seems that Motorola has lost more than 5 %-points worth of market share in Q1. Seems to be at least the same magnitude catastrophy like the one that hit Nokia in winter 2003-2004, when they missed the clamshell train. >>

There is, of course, a major differemce. Nokia took a major share hit, comporable to Mototola's. However, Nokia still had good operating margins in handsets. That allowed them to begin to claw back share by reducing prices on selected models, while they refreshed the product range, and while this impacted operating margins they remained double digits.

Motorola finished this quarter with mobile device sales of 45.4 million units worth $5.412 billion (down 15% YoY). Moto operating profits for mobile devices this quarter were $(260) million (-4.8%).

If there was any high point, ASP was $119.20, ~$6 higher than many anticipated.

Best,

- Eric -
