If you drop the "self righteous" talk about liberals, Bill, and debate the drug prescription issue, all Kyl does in this piece is wave the flag of competition. Yet we know about drugs, particularly new and expensive ones, that they are less subject to the pressures of competition. And we know this legislation originally passed, thanks to enormous pressures from the drug companies. Led to DeLay holding the House vote open an inexcusably long time to pressure Republican members of congress.

So we know what was at stake.

It's not free markets versus the state; it's well near drug monopolies versus consumers. We only have the prospects of the state as a large buyer on our behalf, driving down the costs of drugs.

And, hopefully, clearing up the mess the Reps made of coverage. What a headache.
