• Compal aims to boost its annual sales to over the NT$100 billion (US$3.048 billion) mark in 2008. To that end, the company will set up a new business subgroup focusing on the sales of PDA (personal digital assistant) cellphone handsets, smart phones, and 3G (third generation)-based cellphone handsets, besides its present business subgroups of GSM (global system for mobile communications) and CDMA cellphone handsets.

Compal Communications, Inc., one of Taiwan's leading manufacturers of cellphone handsets, recently announced it scored NT$5.236 billion (US$159.63 million) in 2006, shooting up 63.22% from a year earlier and the same amount as the firm's capitalization, according to company sources.
The firm's after-tax earnings per share reached NT$10.05 (US$0.306 at US$1:NT$32.8) last year. Based on the financial statement passed by board of directors, Compal will distribute NT$7 (US$0.213) in dividend this year, including NT$6.5 (US$0.198) in cash and NT$0.5 (US$0.015) in stock. Compal noted it registered NT$71.566 billion (US$2.181 billion) in sales last year, up 84.65% year-on-year.
The company has aimed to boost its annual sales to over the NT$100 billion (US$3.048 billion) mark in 2008. To that end, the company will set up a new business subgroup focusing on the sales of PDA (personal digital assistant) cellphone handsets, smart phones, and 3G (third generation)-based cellphone handsets, besides its present business subgroups of GSM (global system for mobile communications) and CDMA (code division multiple access) cellphone handsets.
Compal said the proposed new business subgroup will be headed by executive vice president C.C. Chen.
