Places which seriously punish criminally-inclined people and make people take responsibility for themselves tend to be like that: <My sister spent two years in Seoul working on computer systems for the new Inchon Airport, and her teenage daughters went fearlessly everywhere with no escort and only their cell phone.>

Japan feels very safe. Women can walk through parks alone at night without being attacked. Singapore is the same I imagine [it seemed so to me though it was more edgy and dodgy]. Belgium was pretty good too though not as safe as Japan. China and India seem fairly unthreatening too. I wouldn't be seen dead in South Africa [meaning I probably would be].

In NZ, it is completely safe for women to travel in groups of 10 or more, with an armed escort. Tourists should not be in groups of less than 4 and should watch their property constantly. Houses need to be occupied 24/7 to avoid burglary. Anything not fixed to the ground will be removed.
