Where you are wrong in your assumption Nadine is that because I express views that are to the left when it comes to social and foreign policy issues I am very much in agreement with a lot of the conservative financial policy. You don't have to adopt the whole mindset of one side of the political spectrum.....

I stand corrected then, and glad to hear it.

The same thing was said of the IRA 20 years ago.....hope springs eternal. The Palestinians need a seperate autonomous state that should be the West Bank with East Jerusalem as its capitol. Gaza should also be part of it. They need to accept the existense of the state of Israel. Your view that the Palestinians are a violent, terrorism loving people reminds me of the views expressed by the British in the 70s about the Irish.

It's one thing to hope, it's another to ignore the facts in front of your face. Ever since Oslo, it has been the case that Israel has been wanting a Palestinian state, and the Palestinians have obviously not been wanting it, but see it as a shameful consolation prize that the world is trying to force on them.

Where is Palestine, if they want it? Where is the functioning government, where is the state that exists, but only lacks formal recognition? This is what the Zionists had in 1948, what the Kurds have now. This is what you do if you actually want to build a nation. What you say the Palestinians need is exactly the deal they were offered in Taba, and turned down with no counter save a Terror War.

Did Arafat ever once talk about the content of Palestine? Think about the "right of return", which broke the deal, for a minute. If you are building a state, do you want your people returning to some other state, or your own?

Yes, I call the Palestinians terrorism loving. They have elected a woman to parliament whose claim to fame is that she blessed two of her sons on videotape as they went off to suicide-bomb as many Jews as they could kill. They elected Hamas, who never hid either their goals or preferred means. What would you call them?

I would like to see the proof of this please. If you can prove it I will accept your view....if you can't then all I can do is accept this as a wild subjective rant.

Oh please...just the official numbers of aid run well over 1 billion dollars /year...and that's to only about 2 - 3 million people.

The report cited estimates by the International Monetary Fund that foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority doubled to $700 million in 2006 from the previous year. Total foreign assistance to all Palestinian groups -- which includes aid distributed by private organizations -- increased last year to $1.2 billion from $1 billion.

This number doesn't count the UNWRA money, which is over $300 million/ year and counting (UNWRA refugees never die, their refugee status just passes to new recipients)

UNRWA's budget is almost a third of that of the UN High Commission for Refugees, which is the global relief agency. And this is the situation despite the fact that Palestinians constitute only 17% of the world's 24 million refugees.
Somehow, the efforts of UN workers to aid displaced Palestinians have mushroomed into a $330 million-a-year project that actually perpetuates the refugee problem.

The number also doesn't count the arms money to Fatah, Hamas, etc from Islamic "charities" and the like. These sources are not transparent.

As for what Hamas would do with the money, open your eyes and look what they have DONE with their money in the last year. Iran bought them as clients, then Saudi Arabia bought them back in the Mecca accord. Do you seriously believe money didn't change hands? Look at the fortresses they have been building in Gaza, the improvements in their Qassam rocket arsenal.

Of course, you will have to look in sources other than the BBC because they don't report such things. The BBC's institutional leftism makes them believe that the only reason people are poor is because the rich stole their wealth. Their own decisions having nothing to do with it, esp. if they are the "poor oppressed." The BBC also regurgitates Palestinian complaints about Israeli interference, without noting that continual Palestinian efforts to commit mass murder of Jews are a direct cause of that interference.
