Thanks for the links Nadine.....these people are in worse dire straits than I originally thought. I have to disagree with your view on the BBC.....that's something we will never see eye-to-eye on.

Sheesh, Michael, and here you were saying you liked Irish fiscal policies. Have you ever heard the Beeb praise them, or acknowledge that investment-friendly (read: less welfare) policies have some connection with later prosperity? The Beeb is full of quasi-socialists who have been cocooned from the exigencies of the private sector every day of their working lives.

As for the dire straits of the Pals: of course they are in dire straits. Most of their aid money gets stolen off the top or spent on arms, they get only the bare minimum their leaders judge necessary, and their leaders do not permit the conditions needed for business, so pity the poor businessman. Please don't give the usual about Israelis needing to leave them alone. It isn't Israel that keeps blowing up Karni crossing and shelling Sderot.

The irony is that the Pal diaspora has become the Arab Jews of the middle east. Plenty of money and brains there to set up a working economy if only the leaders would let it.

Can't you see how counterproductive all this welfare is, controlled by the corrupt and the terrorist? Do you think Ireland would be in good shape today if you had handed Dublin over to the IRA and given them billions per year in welfare?
