hi there mechka1.... i was treated for a pretty severe case of TMJ in my mid twenties....it's a difficult condition to treat, however IF you are able to determine the source of the TMJ, treatment can be very successful in my case, i went to an orthodontist who specialized in TMJ....his treatment protocol involved making a splint to wear and fine tuning the shape of the splint as the muscles in the jaw relaxed, the purpose being to determine your natural 'bite' without muscle tension and interference that process took approximately one year, and it was extremely important to wear the splint 24/7....if you are unwilling to do that, i believe a good outcome is less probable.... once the natural bite was re-established, the next course of treatment involved regular orthodontics (braces) to align the teeth properly to the bite... in my case approximately 2 years.... my treatment was imo, 100% successful, the pain was eliminated and my 'bite' was perfectly aligned... it was a long process, but worth the effort i found a link that has more details on the treatment options emedicinehealth.com my personal opinion is that the treatment success is highly dependent on the expertise of your dentist/orthodontist, i was extremely fortunate to find a pioneer (at the time) in TMJ treatment, and attribute my excellent result to his skill and my willingness to comply with the treatment protocol..... good luck!
