Longview Fibre Shareholders Approve Sale to Brookfield

LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) -- Longview Fibre Co. shareholders on Thursday approved the company's sale to Brookfield Asset Management Inc.

Under a $1.6 billion deal announced in February, Toronto-based Brookfield agreed to buy Longview Fibre for $24.75 per share and assume about $518 million of the southwest Washington company's debts.

Longview Fibre employs about 3,000 people across the country and owns or manages about 588,000 acres of private timberlands in Washington state and Oregon. That land will add to the 2 million acres of North American and Brazilian timber that Brookfield owns or manages.
