Shuffle Master Rises As Pa. OKs for Sale Blackjack Version of TableMaster

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Shuffle Master Inc., which makes automatic card shuffling machines and casino chip sorters, climbed Friday after the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved for sale the blackjack version of its TableMaster product.

"This represents the first virtual table game approved for sale in Pennsylvania, which gives Shuffle Master a critical first-mover advantage," Deutsche Bank analyst Bill Lerner wrote in a client note.

Lerner said a board official commented that approvals for other games, including "Three-Card Poker" and "Let It Ride," should be relatively quick to obtain moving forward.

Lerner sees TableMaster possibly receiving approval in Rhode Island near-term and expects the company to aggressively go after placements in other slots-only "racino" jurisdictions including New York and Florida and possibly West Virginia. Racinos are horse- or dog-racing tracks that also have casino operations.
