The PC Magazine performance test findings are similar to those in PC World. No one test will mirror the exact way each individual uses his/her PC. The difference between the base P200MMX and the top line PII300 was more here (22.7%) which is probably partly based on the fact that the test I quoted involved an especially fast P200MMX, the Gateway 2000. This machine is available for less than $1800. If I was buying a desktop today, I would probably get a PII233,which is good value for the money. I won't buy new one at all since I have a fast P200MMX. If I remember correctly when the P90 and P100 came out they were such a good performance increase over the 486 that there was demand all across the bell curve. We will have to wait at least a year for similar broad demand to develop for Intel based products. The knowledge of this will temporarily weigh on INTC price, giving alert investors a chance to buy shares at what will appear to be bargain prices 18 months from now, when the market begins to anticipate the profits from a giant awakened.
