John,
"440LX just came out."

Are you sure? Did you verify your information?
What I know is the other companies, like AsusTec, Gigabyte, Tyan,
SuperMicro...etc, already used 440LX chip set for their motherboard
selling on the market. My question is why Intel doesn't use 440LX chip
set to make motherboard in Portland and let other companies use new chip set to make motherboards selling on the market? Two possiblities.
1. Try to liquire older chip set, like WSJ report.
2. Intel can't catch up(like you said 440LX just came out) - Intel can't make new chip set motherboard in efficiency in manufacturing) and the other companies can.

"Intel doesn't command as much profit margin in the chipset...no need
to liquidate older chipset."

Beautiful! Did you own any business before? What kind of business man
are you? If Intel no need to liquidate older chip set, like you said,
then let me put it this way, "Intel needs to write off the older chip set." The amount of the money is good enough for Intel to hire more than 100 salesmen.

"440BX chip set"
Did you see it? Did anyone test? I don't have this information. Please
post here.

Did you verify the WSJ report? If you didn't, why you used "How do you
know Intel's jealous competitors are not behind this one?" Let me ask you, "How do you know it is Intel's competitor are behind this one?" All of this questions don't make sense. I posted what I knew from the WSJ and I wish you do the same thing, If you don't want anyone call you big mouth.

Best wishes

James
