"Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" This is one of the scariest quiz shows I've seen for awhile. The premise is that grownups cannot answer questions routinely asked of 5th graders. Jeff Foxworthy is the host and switches from his gregarious redneck comedian face to his SOB game show host face. He does a good job, but is not very likeable.
Last night, they had a pro poker player who also teaches at The World Series of Poker School. I was thinking a bit of gray matter might appear. The show is somewhat mislabled. Only a few of the questions are 5th grade level. Most are 1st, 2d, 3rd and 4th grade level. I did not hear a difficult question during the entire show. But, if the adult gets stumped, he has 3 cheats: he can peek at a 5th grader's answer, and use it if he likes it. He can copy the 5th grader's answer, but has to use it. Or, if he misses the question and the 5th grader gets it right, he can be saved that way one time.
The poker player was dumber than a red brick fence. He guessed the wrong number of Supreme Court Justices and was saved by a ten year old girl. He used both of his cheats, also, and, lucky for him, the school kids got it right.
The kids were a mixed bag. One boy and one girl were total brats and needed their rear ends blistered. The others seemed like nice, bright kids.
The dumb poker player ended up winning $500,000. Who said that life is fair? <G> |
