Our gun policies should not be determined by events that occur a few times a year at most, across the entire country, no matter how tragic those rare events are.

Again, your Wikipedia URL is an attempt to not face the fact of your REAL options when faced with an armed homicidal maniac.

That's rare, but getting mugged is not rare. And a lot of people are permantly injured or killed when that happens.

I am not going to google up all the cases to prove the point, but you might be amazed at how many times having a gun has run off a potential criminal. At least carry pepper spray. Books have been written on the subject. Again, find them yourself.

The rule of thumb when faced with terminal violence is:

"Charge a gun, run from a knife."

It's counterintuitive to do the first, but if you are going to be killed, it's your best chance. The same thing is taught in the military when caught in an ambush.
