With regard to the expressed feelings that many to most young people are too impressionable and emotional or unstable to be trusted with firearms, there is this disconnect: We have long been arming young people to serve in our military and training them in the proper handling and use of those and other weapons.

Another option would be to arm those among the faculty who are willing to be armed and maintain proficiency in the use of firearms.

I am astounded that the campus police were unarmed--even though they go through the same background checks and training as other law enforcement officers.

So-called "gun-free zones" are, to my way of thinking, the utmost in wishful thinking and, as we have come to see, downright lunacy.
