I don't think concealed carry is such a bad idea, if done right. Make the CC applicants go through a rigorous training and screening, equivalent to what a well trained law-enforcement officer would get. Implement consistent Federal standards. Then, they could be a plus. There really is never a cop around when you need one - it's a law of nature, like Murphy's law.

Here in Utah, they have concealed carry, and several other states have adopted Utah's standards and accept Utah's permit. I think the standards are VERY lax. Also, the cost is minimal. As a result, out of state applicants are flooding the tiny staff that grants the CC permits. Done wrong, I agree with you, it just makes us all less safe.
