You would think that with such sophistication in parenting these days, combined with advances in child psychology, that we'd be raising perfect young boys and girls, no?

I've noticed that parenting here is very different from what it was in LA. Fathers play a much more active role in their kids' lives and the children are treated with a modicum of respect [when they deserve it of course]and very rarely are put down harshly. And the results are significant........the kids here tend to me much more secure, better behaved and more mature than their counterparts in LA. Oftentimes, someone I think is in college or in their early twenties turns out to be in high school. Its not surprising to see teenage kids walking with their parents around a lake or on a boardwalk actively engaging those parents whereas in LA, a teenage kid would not be caught dead walking with his parents. And these Seattle kids aren't nerds. I've found that good parenting where you don't call your kids ridiculous names appears to work......not that I am not an authority on the subject by any means.
