Euterpe is IMO, what you say, Suma.... The problem is, that everyone of us, no matter how we think politically, are to say the least, troubled by the totally out of hand behavior of "seemingly" so many today.
My husband keeps reminding me there are over 300,000,000,000 people in this country today. Out of that, there are some number of people who are mentally ill, and some who are just plain angry misfits.
We do have the 2nd Amendment guarantee. Thank God.
Murders and yes, mass murders can be caused by all sorts of things, from baseball bats, poison, to IED's and other types of bombs including fertilizer based ones as in Oklahoma.
So, we have to look around and see what we can do to try to stop some of the carnage. IF VA had had mental health records in the system, and the gun dealer had access to a department that said yes or no to the potential buyer, this might have been prevented.
Not necessarily though....This guy seems to have been an odd duck since early childhood. His brain seems to have been working well, considering the planning he went through ahead of time. He could easily have used another weapon of choice, like a truck bomb.....
The young man who did the recent killing was not deemed as needing mental help, because we are SO PC that everyone in his circle of possible seemed to be trapped in the stickiness of "what to do about it"....
In our wisdom, we have very few mental hospitals of any note. They have been relegated to "home health care..."
So many people would rather have the latest computer, hand held communication gadget, hottest cell phone that does everything, newest TV, newest car, hottest house, and then expects the Government to pay for his/her health care so many don't even buy health insurance ....
This is the greatest country on earth. If it weren't so, people wouldn't be trying to stream in here to take part of what this country is...
We can't get valuable Statesmen/Stateswomen to run for office, because who wants the grief....
So we have to get our concerns on the table as I just have, many of us have, including Euterpe. Then we have to try to come together and honestly deal with the issues.
Switzerland has a law that it is against the law NOT to be trained on using a gun, and have one in their homes. They don't seem to have a big problem, even in percentage to their overall population. |
