i am wondering what precisely the founding fathers had in mind Since there was no tax regime contemplated, pretty sure their idea was that "Homeland Security" would be effected by the citizenry having access to their flintlocks in case of an external threat, like England. They obviously had no inkling of the future development of hand guns or automatic weapons. The argument that the 2nd Amendment is somehow sacrosanct is cover for those Americans whose virility is driven by gunpowder. Part of why Thomas Jefferson was so insistent that the Constitution needed to be modified frequently to accomodate changes in society and technology.
