I understand Maurice, it is not your fight. Better left to others to deal with who are "closer" to Afghanistan. Though presumably New Zealand is probably closer than the US is. But isn't the "it is not our fight" essentially what Chamberlain said when Nazi Germany just wanted "the German speaking part" of Czechoslavakia? I guess he figured no one would care much when he took the whole thing. And indeed Chamberlain didn't care much - he figured Britain had a nice moat and he could work with Hitler to achieve "peace in our time".

It is precisely your point of view which represents New Zealand as not having much stake in the affairs of the rest of the world in confronting jihadic terrorism that is very troubling. The view that "it is not your fight" is the troubling part.
