Oh, dear, that does make it a lot harder. There isn't much your son can do, and it places him in the position of bad guy when he tries to be firm on his own.

One of the predictors for a successful marriage is if your own parents have stayed together.

For a libertarian, which is what I am according to all those online quizzes, I still hold a lot of very strong opinions about acting for the good of the whole, and that especially means for the good of our children, even if it means sacrificing one's own desires and goals.

BTW, I think the fact that both this thread and Center see me as not fitting in very well is a compliment. I will comfort myself with this and your and Suma's very kind words when I am ducking after the last post. :)
