But, on a serious note, some of them are my friends. They are part timers who do it for all the strange reasons folk do that: want to contribute to the town, love the spotlight, just hanker after exercising the small bit of power they get.

But too many of them think disagreeing about public policy matters should be done the way it's now done on SI. Accuse your opponent of seven levels of perfidy. And damn him or her to hell.

No knives and pistols allowed.

They haven't put metal screening devices at the entry to the council meeting room. But widespread gun carrying would certainly do the trick.
