If the people of Somalia continue killing each other en masse, and the Ethiopians decide after a year or two that sitting around in Somalia isn't giving them any benefit, and the Ethiopians leave and Somalia once again descends into civil war, did the Ethiopian lose a war, or did they just decide that the price to pay to help the Somalians is not worth the cost of Ethiopian lives? The Ethiopians didn't cause the civil war. Small but oh so important difference between Somalia and Iraq. Perhaps you recall one of Bush's own men, Powel, who warned, You break it, you own it. Seems like many would prefer to selectively ignore that warning. They usually have to avoid being killed by the winners, who are now occupying their homes. Which is the primary reason we don't just up and leave: The fear that AQ or others will remember and pay a little interest at some distant point in time.
